The 2008 Nissan Altima comes standard with front and side air bags for front-seat passengers and side-curtain air bags for passengers in both rows. For 2008, Nissan now includes anti-lock brakes for all its trims. Additionally, the 2008 Altima receives excellent scores in both government and insurance industry crash tests. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives the 2008 Altima five out of five stars for frontal offset and side impact crashes, and a four-star rollover rating, out of a possible five stars. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the 2008 Altima a "Good" rating, the highest possible, in frontal offset tests.
- "Even the base model Altima comes standard with six air bags." -- Arizona Republic
- "The Altima is one of few family-oriented midsize sedans that can have an optional rearview camera. Part of the Technology Package that includes a navigation system with a 6.5-inch screen and XM satellite radio, the navigation screen displays the camera's image when the car is in Reverse." -- Cars.com
- "Headlight high-beams spread light on the shoulders as well as throw it forward. Big plus, especially in unlighted rural areas where who knows what could bound up from the roadside ditches." -- USA Today
- "Despite what some socially-conscious celebs may say, being seen in a car is not as important as seeing out of a car. Nissan recognizes this distinction, and provides…square side mirrors that lessen blind spots, thin A- and B-pillars for clear views forward and over the shoulder, as well as expansive side glass area. Even the rear pillars are relatively narrow, further eliminating those nasty blind spots. Rear visibility is hampered somewhat by the steep angle of the glass and small integrated outboard headrests." -- Autobytel
