Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2008 Nissan Frontier does well in federal government crash tests, which auto reviewers such as Newsday say is the result of "about as modern a package of safety features as you'll find in a pickup."

In federal government testing, the 2008 Frontier 4x4 earned four out of five stars for driver and front passenger protection in front impact crashes, and five out of five stars for front seat and backseat occupant protection in side impact crashes. The 4x2 earned four out of five stars for the driver and five stars for the front passenger in frontal crashes, and five stars for front seat protection in side impact tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the Frontier its highest rating, "Good," in frontal offset tests, but did not conduct side impact tests.

Accident Avoidance

All the Frontier's trim levels have four-wheel anti-lock brakes with electronic brake force distribution and a tire pressure monitoring system. The NISMO and LE trims can opt for a hill descent control and hill start assist system.

Crash Protection

In the event of an accident, all trims have dual-stage front air bags, front active head restraints and an energy absorbing steering column. Nissan's optional Side Air Bags Package adds driver and front passenger side impact air bags and roof-mounted curtain air bags for both side impact and rollover protection.
