2008 Nissan Versa Safety Review [ 2009 , 2007 ]
Based on analysis of 49 Versa reviews and test drives.
Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The 2008 Nissan Versa receives good scores in both government and insurance industry crash tests.
The Versa earned four out of five stars for both driver and passenger in government frontal crash tests, and five out of five stars in the front and rear seats in side crash tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gives the Versa a "Good" rating -- the highest possible -- in frontal offset tests, side impact tests with standard front and rear head curtain air bags and standard front seat-mounted torso air bags. IIHS also gives Versa a good rating for set/head restraint geometry.
Accident Avoidance
To prevent accidents from happening, the Versa has a tire-pressure monitoring system to maintain proper tire inflation and front-disc and rear drum brakes that come standard, but MSN wishes for more. "Anti-lock brakes with brake assist and electronic brake force distribution for surer emergency stops are optional," the reviewer writes. "And an anti-skid control system isn't offered for either trim level."
Crash Protection
The 2008 Nissan Versa features six air bags standard, including front and side-curtain air bags.
