New 2008 Pontiac G5 Safety Review
Based on analysis of 25 G5 reviews and test drives.
Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The 2008 Pontiac G5 receives class-competitive scores in government crash tests.
The G5 earned four out of five stars for the driver and five out of five stars for the front passenger in frontal offset crashes. In side crashes, the G5 received four stars for both the front seat and backseat occupant protection.
Accident Avoidance
Poor visibility is a safety concern. Writers like the Detroit News report problems with rear visibility, "which is impaired by the top parcel shelf and the rear spoiler," the reviewer says. "It makes backing out of a long driveway a real challenge – and a safety concern if you have small children next door."
The 2008 Pontiac G5 comes with front and rear drum brakes on the base model, and four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock brakes and traction control come standard on the GT model. All G5s now have a tire pressure monitoring system, and the GT has StabiliTrak and OnStar Assistance.
Crash Protection
The 2008 G5 has standard dual-stage frontal, driver and right-front passenger air bags. New this year, head curtain side air bags are also provided standard.
