Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2008 Pontiac G6 is best equipped for safety at its higher trim levels. For the base models, many reviews say safety features are a mixed bag. However, the sedan performs well in both government and insurance industry crash tests.

In government crash tests, the G6 sedan earned five out of five stars in driver protection in frontal crashes, and four out of five stars for the front passenger. In side impact crashes, the 2008 G6 earned five out of five stars. The G6 sedan has a four-star rollover rating. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the G6 the highest rating, "Good" in frontal offset tests. In side impact tests the 2008 G6 is awarded an "Acceptable" rating.

Accident Avoidance

All G6s come standard with antilock brakes and traction control. StabiliTrak's driver controlled dynamic control system is an option for the GT trim and standard for the GXP.

Crash Protection

The Bergen County (NJ) Record reports that the "G6 features safety cage construction that is complemented with reinforced rocker sections, a reinforced front body hinge pillar and roof pillars that were designed to improve impact protection." Dual-stage frontal and side impact air bags are standard for the G6, in addition to driver and right-front passenger and head curtain side-impact air bags. Onstar's Emergency Services is provided for all trims.
