Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The Pontiac Torrent receives high scores in both government and insurance industry crash tests.
Edmunds observes that "providing a lot of peace of mind is another Torrent talent," alluding to its class-leading performance in crash tests. In government crash tests, the 2008 Pontiac Torrent earned top scores of five stars in both frontal impact crashes and side crashes. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gives the 2008 Torrent a top score of "Good" for frontal crash tests.
Accident Avoidance
The Pontiac Torrent comes equipped with various safety features such as StabiliTrak, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control and available all-wheel drive.
Crash Protection
Crash protection features include dual-stage frontal, driver and right-front passenger air bags with Passenger Sensing System (side-impact, head curtain, front and rear air bags with rollover sensor are optional) and Lower Anchors and Top Tethers for Children (LATCH). An optional security package (which also requires the Torrent's preferred package) includes rollover sensing head curtain side-impact air bags and OnStar, as part of a one-year Safe and Sound Plan.
