2008 Porsche Cayman Exterior Review

Exterior - What the Auto Press Says
Standout exterior styling is a hallmark of the 2008 Porsche Cayman. USA Today says the Cayman's exterior "amazes and delights without overwhelming," and adds, "the rear fenders are sensual beyond decency. They arrest the eye and give the mind pause: Is this a Porsche or Ferrari or some obscure custom machine or what?"
Though the Cayman closely resembles its Boxster sibling, its attractive hard-top styling isn't just for show. Though Automobile Magazine notes that the Cayman is "essentially a Boxster with a steel coupe roof and a hatchback," they also report that "Porsche claims that as a result of the steel surgery, torsional rigidity doubles." That additional rigidity gives the Cayman better handling.
Appreciating the look without giving a thought to handling is easy to do, though. Some reviews even go as far as to compare the Cayman's looks with the revered Porsche 911's. The Los Angeles Times says that the Cayman has "a far more charismatic shape, more interesting and acute, than the serenely lovely 911 coupe." Kelley Blue Book adds, "Porsche has a history of creating memorable automotive statements, but the Cayman's definitive combination of sensual form and delightful details seems destined to ensure it a place in the marque's Hall of Fame." Even with comparisons to classic Porsches, the Boston Globe says the Cayman goes anywhere: "This is a car you can wear like sizzling armor on the racetrack, or like a comfortable cotton shirt for around town travel."
Exterior Trims
There are few visual differences between the Cayman and the Cayman S. The Cayman S gets 18 inch tires (as opposed to 17 inch tires on the Cayman), red brake calipers, and slightly modified exhaust pipes.
