Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The 2008 Porsche Cayman has not been crash-tested by the federal government or the insurance industry. The Cayman does come with a full compliment of safety features, however.
Accident Avoidance
There are a number of standard active safety systems on the 2008 Porsche Cayman. Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes are standard, as are traction and stability control. These systems constantly compare the driver's inputs with the driving conditions and the car's response, and react to help maintain control. Given the car's performance potential, the Arizona Republic says stability and traction control "help keep you out of trouble." The Orlando Sentinel adds that the Cayman drives with "little drama unless you push it far past the limit. Electronic stability control, which is standard, helps you avoid that."
Crash Protection
In the event of a crash, the Cayman has six standard air bags: front, side and head for both the drive and passenger. The passenger air bag has an occupant sensing system which switches the air bag off if it detects a passenger small enough to be injured by the air bag's deployment. The Cayman does not offer a child safety seat, and as a two seat car, isn't recommended for transporting small children.
