The 2008 Saab 9-5 SportCombi does very well in federal government crash tests. It earns five out of five stars for both driver and front passenger protection in front impact crashes. In side impact crashes, the 9-5 SportCombi earns five stars for front seat occupant protection and four stars for backseat occupant protection. "Safety features included with the Saab 9-5 SportCombi are plentiful," says Forbes. And the Washington Post reports that "your chances of avoiding a crash, or of surviving one that proves unavoidable, are good in this wagon."
Accident Avoidance
Standard accident avoidance features in the 9-5 SportCombi include a traction control system, an electronic stability program, anti-lock brakes, a tire-pressure-monitoring system, and a "follow me home" feature that leaves the front headlights on for a short period after the driver exits the car.
Crash Protection
Standard crash protection features include adaptive driver-and-passenger front air bags, head and torso side air bags for the front seats, three-point safety belts for all seats, seat belt pretensioners and load limiters for the front seats child-seat top-tether anchors (a LATCH system), and child safety locks on the rear doors.
