Saturn Outlook - What the Auto Press Says
The 2008 Saturn Outlook ranks 5 out of 26 Affordable Midsize SUVs. This ranking is based on our analysis of 35 published reviews and test drives of the Saturn Outlook, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.
The Outlook earns a high ranking for its quick acceleration, competitive list of standard safety features, spacious cabin, and decent fuel economy for its size. For 2008, the Outlook gets more standard and optional equipment, including a newly standard XM Satellite Radio.
Despite leftover transmission woes from a prior component recall and overall questionable reliability, the 2008 Saturn Outlook still ranks well. "All in all, GM's new crossovers represent exactly what most buyers of people movers both need and want: a vehicle with all the practicality of an SUV and few of the drawbacks," says Automobile Magazine. It's no wonder that the 2007 Outlook was named Motor Week's "Best Crossover Utility."
The 2008 Outlook is available in two trims: the base XE and the XR. Both trims are available in front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) versions.

Outlook Performance - 8.0 (Very Good)
The Saturn Outlook offers performance that's among the best in the class, thanks to quick acceleration, respectable fuel economy, a solid braking system, and car-like handling. Car and Driver reports that it "never feels clumsy, remaining composed and without excessive body motions over every bump and through every turn we flung it into." Nevertheless, complaints about the automatic transmission detract from its overall performance. Outlook Exterior - 7.5 (Good)
Though the 2008 Saturn Outlook gets generally positive reviews for its exterior styling, it ranks in the bottom half of the class because others offer a more distinctive look. The Detroit News says the Outlook "defies the stereotype because of its low-riding body. It looks more like a sports ute than a wagon on steroids -- the other common version of large crossovers." Outlook Interior - 8.1 (Very Good)
The Saturn Outlook's eight-passenger cabin ranks high for its comfortable three-row seating arrangement, overall fit and finish, and generous cargo space. "Add in easy-to-decipher controls, soft leather seats, effective sounding deadening, a top quality auto system, and seating for six real people, plus one small one, and you have a crossover vehicle that demands attention," says MarketWatch.
