Safety - What the Auto Press Says

CNET says the Legacy "rarely loses its composure." In fact, the sedan does very well in government crash tests, and is an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety "Top Safety Pick" for good performance in front, side and rear tests.

In government crash tests, the 2008 Legacy earned five stars for both frontal offset and side impact crashes, and it has a four-out-of-five star rollover rating.

Accident Avoidance

All five trim levels of the 2008 Legacy come standard with Subaru's symmetrical all-wheel drive system -- ensuring balanced road traction in practically any weather condition. In addition, a tire pressure monitoring system, daytime running lights, anti-lock brakes and Electronic Brake force Distribution are standard on the Legacy -- helping to ensure the safety and security of all passengers.

Vehicle Dynamics Control is standard for some Legacy models, and senses vehicle instability and applies brakes and/or reduces engine power as necessary. Traction control is also offered.

Crash Protection

Standard on all 2008 Legacies are dual-stage deployment driver and front-passenger air bags with driver's seat position sensor, front and rear side-curtain air bags, seat-mounted front side-impact air bags and height-adjustable active front-seat head restraints. Furthermore, the 2008 Subaru Legacy maintains a ring-shaped reinforcement frame body structure and an energy-absorbing collapsible steering column.
