Safety - What the Auto Press Says
With a competitive list of safety equipment, the 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid does very well in government crash tests.
The 2008 Camry Hybrid earned five out of five stars for both frontal and side impact tests, and has a four-star rollover rating. Additionally, the conventional Camry received the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's best-possible rating of "Good" for frontal offset and side impact tests.
Accident Avoidance
The new Camry Hybrid has traction control, vehicle stability control, anti-lock brakes with brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution, as well as a tire-pressure monitor. MSN is pleased that "unlike early hybrids, the Camry Hybrid wears regular all-season tires, not low-rolling resistance rubber," because "the latter can have less grip on rainy and snowy road surfaces."
Another standard feature is Toyota's Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management system, which uses sensors to collect information from the car's safety systems.
Crash Protection
The Camry Hybrid features crumple zones designed to absorb collision-impact forces, as well as "every kind of airbag that exists," according to BusinessWeek. Those air bags include front, side and side curtain protection, as well as air bags to protect the driver's knees.
