Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2008 Toyota Matrix receives average scores in federal government crash tests. The federal government's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2008 Matrix five out five stars for driver protection and four out of five stars for the passenger's protection in front crashes. In side crash tests, the 2008 Toyota Matrix receives three out of five stars for front seat occupant protection (five out of five stars if side airbags are installed) and four out of five for rear seat occupant protection. Additionally, the Matrix earns four out of five stars for rollover resistance.

Accident Avoidance

The 2008 Matrix has power-assisted ventilated front disc, rear drum brakes and provides four-wheel anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution and vehicle stability control, with traction control and Brake Assist as options.

Crash Protection

To protect drivers and passengers in an accident, Toyota outfits its Matrix with front air bags with multi-stage deployment for both the driver and front passenger. Seat-mounted side air bags and side curtain air bags are optional for both the front and rear seats.
