Exterior - What the Auto Press Says
Compared to other full size pickups, the imposing Toyota Tundra just isn't imposing enough. AutoWeek says, "The problem we found with the Tundra is that domestic pickup owners don't even notice it. There were almost a dozen other tow vehicles in our campground, and nobody stopped by to check out the Tundra."
Cars.com is ambivalent: "The Tundra resembles the Tacoma midsize pickup but with a taller, domed hood. Its most distinctive element is a black strip that spans the crest of the grille frame. I'm not sure I like it, but there it is."
Others regard the Tundra's looks more positively, and find various ways to describe the Tundra as big and macho. "The Tundra isn't just bigger than its wimpy predecessor," says Automobile Magazine, "it begs for notice. There's enough chrome in its grille to deplete global reserves of that metal." Car and Driver writes, "The look is nothing if not seriously butch, a macho presence Toyota hopes will appeal to true truckers, i.e., people who use their trucks in connection with their livelihood -- people who have hitherto bought Chevy Silverados, Dodge Rams, GMC Sierras, and most of all, Ford F-series."
