Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The Tundra does well in government crash tests and is recognized as one of the Insurance Institute's "Top Safety Picks" for 2008.

In government crash tests, the 2008 Tundra earned four out of five stars for both the driver and front passenger in frontal crashes. The Tundra only gets a three-star rollover rating with two-wheel drive, but earns a four-star rollover rating with all-wheel drive. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the 2008 Tundra a "Good" rating, the highest possible, for both frontal offset and side impact tests, and recognizes the Tundra as a Top Safety Pick for good performance in front, side and rear crash tests.

Accident Avoidance

Standard accident avoidance features on the Tundra include the Star Safety System, with vehicle stability control (VSC), traction control (TRAC), four-wheel disc anti-lock brake system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), and brake assist. In addition, the Tundra offers a back-up camera system with a miniature camera in the tailgate latch that is linked to a monitor in the overhead console to improve rearward view while backing up and to help when hitching a trailer.

Crash Protection

Standard crash protection features on the Tundra include driver/passenger advanced airbags with occupant classification system and passenger cutoff switch, driver/passenger seat mounted side airbags, roll-sensing side curtain airbags, three-point seatbelts in all seating positions, and child restraint system top tether anchors.
