2008 Volkswagen Eos Reliability Review [ 2007 ]
in Affordable Four-Seat Convertibles
Based on analysis of 48 Eos reviews and test drives.
Reliability
The 2008 Volkswagen Eos reliability score of 4.0 out of 10 is the Predicted Reliability rating provided by J.D. Power and Associates. This score is based on trending the past three years of historical initial quality and dependability data from J.D. Power's automotive studies, specifically the Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) and the Initial Quality Study (IQS).
The Eos is covered by a four-year, 50,000-mile basic warranty.
Most reviews say the Eos needs a few more years to establish a track record for dependability. The New York Times points out that Volkswagen has a "dodgy reputation for quality and reliability in recent years, particularly for its new models."
Similarly, a reviewer for Cars.com writes, "I'm duty-bound to mention that VW has had reliability problems with many of its models recently. If this mechanically complex car holds together, it should keep its owners very happy." In addition to the basic warranty -- which Newsday deems "not the best warranty in the business, for sure, but at least better than the traditional three year/36,000 miles" -- the Eos is covered by a five-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty.
