Exterior - What the Auto Press Says

Most critics like the 2008 Jetta's exterior styling. Automobile Magazine says "the Jetta has taken a more mature turn with the redesigned fifth-general iteration." Still, some critics say that this Jetta is less distinctive than earlier models.

Edmunds notes "It's true that the car lacks the distinctiveness or 'cool factor' that made earlier Jettas popular." The look of this generation of the Jetta is a major departure from previous years. CNET says, "Gone are the boxy corners and the rectangular lights." New additions include chrome accents underneath the grille, round headlights, and sloping hood and front fenders. It's also substantially larger than older models; it has a longer wheelbase, a wider track, and tips the scales at over 3,200 pounds." The Detroit News says, "The visual impact of this new look is striking and rather un-VW-like, eliciting a visceral reaction not unlike that of the outrageous new face of the redesigned Audi A6."
