The 2008 Volkswagen Touareg2 does very well in federal government crash tests. It also offers plenty of safety equipment, including new electronic stability control and other features for 2008.
The Touareg2 earns top scores of five stars for driver and passenger safety in frontal crash tests, and for front- and rear-seat safety in side crash tests. It gets a rollover rating of four stars.
Accident Avoidance
To help drivers avoid accidents, the 2008 Volkswagen Touareg2 comes with full-time 4XMotion four-wheel drive and anti-lock brakes. New for 2008 is an automatic brake-drying feature and an enhanced electronic stability system with Brake Assist, Reviewer especially praise the former, with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's reviewer calling it "cool." The Touareg2 also has an available rearview camera, to help drivers avoid backing into people or objects.
Crash Protection
To protect occupants in the event of a crash, the 2008 Volkswagen Touareg2 comes with front and side air bags for the front seats and side curtain air bags for the entire cabin. New for 2008 are rollover sensors for the side curtain air bags. The Touareg2 also has Volkswagen's Intelligent Crash Response System. After a crash is detected, the system shuts off the fuel, disconnects the battery and unlocks the vehicle doors, allowing passengers to make a safe exit.
