The C30 is the first in a new line of Volvos pitched at younger customers, and reviewers generally like its high-performance engine and stylish appearance.
Reviewers like the brand new Volvo C30's high-performance turbocharged engine and its stylish appearance. But the car does have shortcomings that have hurt its overall ranking. For one thing, cargo space is not abundant in the rear. Another issue is the conservative interior's styling might not entice Volvo's target audience for the C30. Another snag to some -- although the C30's base price is relatively modest, options can quickly drive up the cost. "Like some Swedish build-it-yourself furniture, the options add handsomely to the price," Automobile Magazine writes. "Depending on the level of equipment, the C30 is actually almost $3,000 more than a GTI when outfitted similarly."

Car and Driver reports, "coordinated responses" from the clutch shift, "wonderfully linear" brakes," and steering that "zeros in on 'straight down the road' when you cruise."
