The 2008 Volvo S40 reliability score of 8.0 out of 10 is the Predicted Reliability rating provided by J.D. Power and Associates. This score is based on trending the past three years of historical initial quality and dependability data from J.D. Power's automotive studies, specifically the Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) and the Initial Quality Study (IQS).
Volvo provides a new car warranty for all its vehicles that's good for the first four years or 50,000 miles.
In February 2008, Ford Motor Company announced it will recall 23,000 S40 sedans in the U.S. that may have a faulty seal. This seal could cause corrosion of the S40's fuel-pump component.
