New for 2009

The Traverse is a brand new crossover SUV that replaces Chevy's to-be-discontinued Uplander minivan and TrailBlazer SUV. It shares a platform with the GMC Acadia, Buick Enclave and Saturn Outlook. It's available in three trim levels - LS, LT, and LTZ - in either front- or all-wheel drive. Under the hood, there's a universal 3.6-liter V6 engine with direct-fuel injection technology. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard.

The exterior has a sloping roofline similar to the Enclave with a front end similar to the Chevy Malibu. On the inside, there's eight seats standard in three rows or seven seats with optional second-row captain's chairs.

What the Auto Press Says

The Traverse has yet to be test driven, but critics expect it to perform similarly to its GM platform-mates. As for the interior, those who have viewed auto show models say it features good-quality materials and a usable design.

Here is what the press has to say about the coming 2009 Traverse:

  • "Chevrolet now has a family vehicle that gets good-to-great gas mileage, from a modern and competitive powertrain (3.6-liter V-6, six-speeds), one that also offers a stylish design and a comfortably convenient interior. Add to that a five-year, 100,000-mile warranty and a base price that may land between $25,000 - $30,000, and what you've got is the makings of an excellent family value." -- Autobytel
