Infiniti FX - What the Auto Press Says
The FX is redesigned for 2009 with two powerful new engines, a stylish exterior and lots of hi-tech features. Its sporty handling and innovate safety features shine in the familiar sea of crossover SUVs.
Test drivers find the FX incredibly fun to drive, if a bit uncomfortable at times. "FX stands out from the pack for its combination of unique styling, sporty handling, and relative utility," says Consumer Guide. "It does, however, makes some sacrifices in the ride and rear visibility departments. Competitors such as Acura MDX and Lexus RX exhibit a more comfortable, conventional blend of luxury and convenience, with less edgy styling and a more composed ride." Despite a hefty base price, the FX can be considered a value due to its high level of standard features. In addition, it costs several thousand dollars less than the similar 2009 BMW X6.
The Infiniti FX35 (base model) features a V6 engine, while the FX50 (formerly the FX45) boasts a V8. All-wheel drive is optional on the base model and standard on the FX50.
- "If gizmos are your thing -- along with unique looks, solid handling and luxury surroundings -- then this Japanese luxury/sport crossover is tailormade for you." -- Road and Track
- "The FX puts the fun in functional." -- MSN
- "The Infiniti FX delivers a stylish crossover sport-utility with a healthy dose of amenities and solid performance at a decent price, and a palette of options to please almost anyone. If you prefer looking good and speed to practicality, comfort and fuel economy it's worth putting on your list." -- New Car Test Drive
- "While bowing to the inevitable and delivering a better ride and more luxury amenities, the second generation 2009 Infiniti FX also improves on its 'sport-ute that thinks it's a sports car' focus. Its aim of being the fastest, best handling, most techno-savvy CUV on the market is precise. And, for the moment at least, it's there." -- Motor Week
FX Performance - NA
Test drivers praise the redesigned FX for its sporty handling and powerful engines. "The second-generation FX is altogether more comfortable and seems to handle as well as the old one," says the New York Times. "I comfortably drove it down a rocky track in the Nevada desert, an adventure that wouldn't have been possible in the previous FX without wearing a mouth guard and a kidney belt." Still, some test drivers find the ride a bit harsh, especially with the FX50's optional Continuous Damping Control Sport mode.
