Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The 2009 Toyota Corolla does well in both federal government and insurance industry crash tests.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives the 2009 Corolla four out of five stars in frontal crashes. In side crashes, the Corolla earns five stars for the driver's protection in side crashes, and four out of five stars for the passengers' protection in side crashes. The Corolla also earns a four-star rollover rating. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the 2009 model a "Good" rating, the highest possible, in frontal offset tests. The 2008 model received an "Acceptable" rating, the second highest, in side impact tests, but a "Poor" rating in side impact tests when tested without the side air bags.
- "In terms of safety, the Corolla's undergone some major improvements: Antilock brakes, front-seat-mounted torso airbags and two-row side curtain airbags are standard, and while electronic stability control (which Toyota calls VSC) is optional on all models save the XRS, it's a bargain at $250." -- About.com
- "On the safety front, the 2009 Corolla features six strategically placed airbags, and an innovative active front-seat head restraint system that provides additional whiplash protection." -- MSN
- "These new Corollas boast some useful standard features seldom found in this segment…a Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS), anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA) for emergencies." -- The Car Connection:
