Reviewers say that the 2014 Acura MDX has a cabin with a clean design and is assembled with premium materials. But what's it like to drive?
Hi! I am Jim Sharifi with U.S. News Best Cars, and in this video we will take a closer look at the Acura MDX's performance.
The MDX comes with a new 290 horsepower; 3.5 Liter V-6 engine; a 6 speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive are standard. The base MDX earns an EPA estimated 20 miles per gallon in the city, and 28 on the highway. The all-wheel-drive model achieves 18 miles per gallon in the city, and 27 on the highway. Both ratings are excellent for a luxury mid-sized SUV.
Reviewers are pleased with the MDX's power, noting that it accelerates quickly in both city and highway driving. Some say that the new engine offers plenty of passing power throughout the RPM range, while others write that the 6 speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly but note that it's sometimes slow to downshift when extra power is needed.
Critics are pleased with the MDX's suspension, saying it offers a good middle ground between ride comfort, and handling ability. A few test drivers point out that the MDX's light steering inspires confidence. However, others dislike the spongy brake paddle feel, and note that the breaks don't feel particularly strong.
