Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The federal government gives the 2010 Acura MDX top scores of five stars for driver and passenger safety in frontal crash tests. Side crash tests have not yet been conducted on the new model. For 2010, the new Advance package boasts active cruise control, a collision-mitigation system and a blind spot warning system.

  • "Standard safety equipment for the MDX includes antilock disc brakes with brake assist, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, active front head restraints and stability control with a stabilizing feature for trailer towing." -- Edmunds
  • "An optional multiview reverse camera with normal, wide-angle, and top-down views is new, and it displays through the eight-inch infotainment screen. The latter view will undoubtedly aid in accurately lining up a trailer with its straight-down look at the rear bumper, but prepare to jump to the Technology package to get it: Settling for the base model means you get a single-view reverse camera with a display integrated into the rearview mirror." -- Car and Driver
  • "The CMBS [Collision Mitigation Braking System] works like any other radar-based system, using the sensors to detect when you're closing in on the vehicle in front and then automatically applying the brakes without involving the driver." -- Autoblog
  • "On the base MDX without navigation (20% of sales), the rear camera LCD is a small part of the rear view; typically these don't work well on sunny days. An Acura product manager says he thinks it works okay. It wouldn't be a problem if Acura made the center stack LCD standard across the line." -- Gear Log
