2008 Acura TSX Interior

This interior review was written when the 2008 Acura TSX was new.

From its dimensions to its amenities, reviewers agree that the TSX interior is nice. Several describe the car as spacious, while others insist the cabin's materials are above reproach.

The Auto Channel points out that Honda, Acura's parent company, "is very good at designing a lot of usable space into a small package and the TSX is a good example." As nicely outfitted as the TSX is, some reviewers felt that sitting in it was similar to sitting in an Accord. "With a handsome interior design that could teach even a lofty name such as Porsche a thing or two, the TSX feels like an Accord simply because of proportions in the base model. The seating position, the placement of the A-pillars, the rake of the windshield -- things like these make the TSX feel like an Accord, and they're things Acura couldn't get around without a redesign," says Forbes. "It's perfectly comfortable, but -- again -- it's a Honda Accord in a Sunday suit."

Seating

According to several, the 2008 TSX is the same comfortable five-seater as in previous years. Cars.com describes its front seats as "deeply bolstered" and notes that they "offer excellent support." Consumer Guide remarks that the steering wheel and power seats "help tailor a sound basic driving stance. All-around visibility is good."

Many reviewers put the TSX's backseat comfort in perspective. "Given the TSX's rather small size, it's surprising how comfortable the front seats are," says Autobytel. "In the rear seat, however, it's another story." Edmunds figures that the TSX cabin offers "almost the same amount of front and rear-seat legroom as the uplevel TL, and lagging only in rear, middle seat comfort."

Interior Features

Reviewers are pleased with both the quantity and quality of the 2008 TSX's standard appointments. Edmunds explains, "Almost all of the car's high-end features come standard," while Forbes hypothesizes, "That can improve a price comparison versus European competitors, which tend to charge extra for just about everything, including equipment luxury buyers have come to take for granted, like sunroofs."

Auto writers are also appreciative of the TSX's instruments. Consumer Guide notes, "Most controls are simple and smart," while CNET elaborates: "Clear round gauges, hooded readouts, and lots of steering wheel controls never go out of style."

Some standard features include power windows and locks, leather-trimmed seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, xenon headlights, heated power front seats and a power moonroof. The 2008 Acura TSX maintains the same entertainment system as before -- a 360-watt AM/FM/six-disc CD player with eight speakers, an auxiliary jack and XM Satellite Radio capability.

Navigation

A navigation system with voice recognition does well with reviewers. Edmunds calls it "simple to use, intuitive and recognized as one of the best in the industry." MSN explains that the navigation system has been updated from its original (2004) incarnation, which drew mixed reviews: "It's been enhanced with expanded memory and a faster processor to provide quicker start-up and route search times, more points of interest and additional features, including access to the Zagat Survey Restaurant Guide."

When testing out the voice recognition feature, CNET editors found, "After a couple of days of really making the effort to learn the system, we began to enjoy the feeling of ordering the car around rather than pressing buttons." CNET later states that "other features are well-done, with a bright 8-inch screen and large touch-sensitive menu buttons."

Additional Features

Up to six different phones can be paired with the 2008 Acura TSX's Bluetooth HandsFree system. Those reviewers who tested out its functionality were pleased, but CNET does have a complaint: "Voice control of the standard Hands-Free Link phone integration responds similarly well to spoken input, although it still frustratingly requires a separate pair of buttons from the navigation's in order to prompt the car to listen …. We don't know why the phone and navigation phone command systems can't be integrated," they write.

Cargo

The 2008 TSX has 13.2 cubic feet of storage space in its trunk (12.8 cubic feet on models with the navigation system) that is adequate for its class but not overly spacious. Consumer Guide states that the space is "[n]ot bountiful, but good for a compact, and most all the space is usable," before highlighting trunklid hinges that "don't intrude much and are designed so as not to crush packages." MSN notices, "While roomy, the trunk has a rather high opening."

The sedan's rear seat backs flip forward for extra hauling space, but reviewers discover a potential problem. MSN notes that though the seats fold nearly flat, "activating the seatback release calls for a long stretch into the trunk. Also, the pass-through cargo opening between the trunk and rear seat is only moderately large."

CNET says interior storage is good. With two enclosed cabin storage compartments for front passengers, a center console, front door pockets and dual-level storage compartments, its reviewers call cabin storage spaces "convenient and numerous."
