Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2009 TSX does well in both federal government and insurance industry crash tests, thanks to its full array of standard safety equipment. This year, Acura adds the Advanced Compatibility Engineering structure, to improve the car's rigidity and disperse the force of collision energy away from passengers.

Crash Tests

  • The 2009 Acura TSX earns five out of five stars in both frontal and side impact crashes, and has a five-star rollover rating in federal government tests.
  • The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety earns a "Good" rating, the highest possible, in frontal offset and side impact tests, and is a "Top Safety Pick" for its performance in safety tests with electronic stability control.

Safety Features

The TSX's standard safety features include six air bags, anti-lock brakes with brake assist, and vehicle stability assist. A rearview camera is optional. However, reviewers spend the most time praising new ACE body structure or cursing the sometimes limited visibility.

  • "Safety hasn't been overlooked either, with everything from a full array of airbags to electronic stability control to tire pressure monitors included at no extra cost." -- New Car Test Drive
  • "Acura's Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure. … will provide more efficient dispersal of frontal crash energy through load-bearing frame structures to spread the force of a frontal impact more effectively." -- Motor Trend
  • "From the driver's seat, it's no longer easy to instinctively locate the car's four corners, and overall visibility seems compromised." -- Popular Mechanics
