Audi A5 - What the Auto Press Says

The all-wheel drive Audi A5 is considered by many critics to be luxurious and eye-catching. Still, its performance isn't as sporty as its competitors.

All-new for 2008, the Audi A5 is considered by many critics to be luxurious, eye-catching, and powerful. "With its curvaceous yet muscular styling, strong performance and finely tailored cabin, the 2008 Audi A5 personifies the luxury sport coupe," writes Edmunds. Still, many test drivers say it lacks much of the oomph commonly associated with sport cars and performs like a grand tourer instead.

The A5 features a 3.2-liter V6 engine. A sportier S5 trim is also available.

  • "It's practical and comfortable enough for everyday driving with enough style and performance to make a statement." -- Forbes
  • "Other cars may excel at a given quality or quantity, but few can match the overall balance afforded by the affordable A5 or performance value S5. Both offer impressively handsome styling and top-notch engineering." -- New Car Test Drive

Test drivers appreciate the A5 for its powerful engine and responsive handling dynamics. Carseek writes, "Tenacious grip and responsive steering make the 2008 Audi A5 a delight to drive, particularly at higher speeds." Still, some auto writers aren't pleased with its six-speed manual transmission. Read More

"If it's attention you crave, the Audi A5 delivers," writes Forbes. "With a wide and low stance, wheels pushed to the corners and a stretched-out wheelbase, the A5 draws onlookers." However, not all reviewers are pleased with its design. Read More

Auto writers are pleased with the A5's comfortable seats, convenience features, and high-quality interior materials. "All of the instruments are logically laid out, and Audi's MMI operating system remains one of the most intuitive on the market," writes Automobile Magazine. "The cabin also imparts that quality look and feel that have become Audi hallmarks." Its trunk space, however, isn't perfect.  Read More
