Performance - What the Auto Press Says
Not many test drivers have had the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a 2010 A6 Avant.
Acceleration and Power
The 2010 Audi A6 Avant features a new 3.0 TFSI V6 engine that produces 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission with manual shift is standard. According to the EPA, the 2010 A6 Avant nets a city/highway fuel economy of 18/26 mpg.
Handling and Braking
Though few auto writers have driven the new A6 Avant, those who have are pleased with its performance.
- "Audi has also reportedly massaged the A6's suspension in an effort to further improve both comfort and handling, with new, large-diameter shocks up front being the major change, along with improved spring response." -- Motor Trend
- "The Quattro all-wheel-drive system is also reworked. Old A6s used a 50/50 torque split. For 2009, the A6 will employ the same Quattro system in place on the Audi A5, S5, and Q7. The new system is rear-biased, delivering up to 85 percent of torque to the rear wheels. Audi says this should give the A6 a more 'lively' handling dynamic." -- Car and Driver
- "All models corner with little body lean and reassuring composure, abetted by the steering's satisfying weight and accuracy." -- Consumer Guide
- "For negotiating curvy canyons or snowy streets, Audi's famed quattro all-wheel-drive system gives the A6 a real advantage." -- Kelley Blue Book
