Critics say that the 2014 Audi A6 not only has one of the nicest interiors in the class, but it also offers one of the most enjoyable driving experiences. I am Jim Sharifi, Senior Editor with U.S. News Best Cars. In this video we will take a closer look at the Audi A6's performance. The base A6 comes with a turbocharged 2 L four-cylinder engine that produces 220 hp. A continuously variable transmission and front wheel drive are standard, but an eight-speed automatic transmission and all wheel drive are optional. The base A6 gets an EPA estimated 25 miles per gallon in the city and 33 on the highway, which is very good for luxury large car. However, many reviewers think that the base engine delivers unimpressive acceleration and they say that the continuously variable transmission is not smooth or responsive. Most agree that the eight-speed automatic is a better choice.
The diesel powered A6 TDI improves overall mileage to an estimated 24 city and 38 highway and reviewers say its 240 hp deliver robust acceleration. For even greater acceleration the high-performance S6 is powered by twin turbocharged 4 L V-8 that generates 420 hp and Audi says it can accelerate from zero to 60 in 4.5 seconds. Reviewers write that the A6 has athletic handling and a smooth ride, which they say make it an appealing choice in comparison with the BMW five series and Mercedes-Benz E class. Despite some wishing that the A6 is hearing offered more feedback overall they say the A6 provides one of the most appealing driving experiences in the class.
