Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The federal government gives the 2010 Audi Q5 top scores of five stars for all seating positions in both frontal and side crash tests. The Q5 also gets a four-star rollover score, which means it has only a 15 percent chance of rollover in a single vehicle crash. The insurance industry gives the 2010 Q5 its top score of "Good" in front, side and rear crash protection tests.

  • "Should there be an impediment to retrieving the mail at the end of the drive (such as a brick wall or ornamental shrub, perhaps), the Q5's stout structure and passive safety features are ready for action. The body is constructed mostly of high-strength steels, with 9.1 percent of the overall weight drawn from super-strength boron steel." -- Motor Trend
  • "On the tech watch, Audi's side assist ‘sees' cars in the blind spot and triggers yellow LEDs mounted on the mirrors. The system works flawlessly, but we had to train ourselves to look for the dim yellow LEDs in bright sunlight. And frankly, if you're going to look that hard, you may as well just check your blind spot." -- Popular Mechanics
  • "In addition to the usual front, side-impact and side-curtain airbags, the Q5 offers several active safety features, the most notable of which is Braking Guard. It uses the adaptive cruise control's radar to monitor the space in front of the SUV. If it's closing in on another vehicle or object, it alerts the driver first with a sound and warning lights and then by jabbing the brake momentarily." -- Cars.com
