Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The 2008 Audi R8 has not been crash tested by the federal government or insurance industry. But rest assured that plenty of safety features come standard.
Accident Avoidance
The R8 comes standard with four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, high-intensity discharge headlights, traction control, electronic stability control and Quattro all-wheel drive.
A few reviews mention visibility issues. "The roof rolls down far enough that tall drivers will have to duck to see under the edge," says USA Today. "And the engine in back means you can't see much when you look to the rear." MSN also notes that it's "impossible to see where the front and rear of the R8 ends." To remedy this, Audi offers a parking system with a rearview camera as part of the optional Convenience Package.
Crash Protection
To protect passengers in a crash, the R8 provides dual-stage front air bags with occupant sensing for the passenger side, as well as side air bags for the front seats.
