Exterior - What the Auto Press Says
Though some critics can't get used to its side blades, most agree that the R8 is a jaw-dropping show-stopper.
- "Audi's R8 is styled unlike anything else on the road, with sweeping arcs and muscular lines that are more suited to a concept car than a road-going one. ... From what we can tell, the R8 might not look out of place in the year 2109." -- Kelley Blue Book
- "Parked on the street, cruising around Detroit and especially on the highway, people would gawk, their mouths gaping open, their eyes following you. Some would drive up and stick a single thumb out their window approvingly, goofy smiles on their faces." -- Detroit News
- "Audi has given the R8 a race car's functional look. For example, wide 'side blades' behind the front doors, which can be had in a contrasting body color, aren't the sort of item seen on cars. They house engine-bay air scoops because the R8 has a great appetite for air, like all high-performance sports cars." -- MSN
- "It took me a while to make up my mind on the sideblades, which can be ordered in colors that contrast with the rest of the bodywork. At first I disliked them, then I wondered if I was being closed-minded toward styling innovation, and finally I concluded that the things are hideous and began referring to them as sideburns." -- New York Times
- "Visual differences between V-8 and V-10 R8s are slight. The V-10 model has wider intakes behind the doors, which sit atop wider body sills. In front and back, the black accents are glossy instead of flat, and there are two crossbraces to the air intake rather than three." -- Car and Driver
- "The car's dimensions don't vary much from the V8 model - the V10 measures just 3 millimeters taller and 4mm longer. This car is wider than the V8 by just over an inch, though, and this is because the wider side blades (i.e., air scoops) take in more air for cooling and, frankly, just add more badass-edness to the way the V10-powered R8 looks." -- Edmunds
