Audi TT - What the Auto Press Says

The 2010 Audi TT ranks 8 out of 9 Luxury Sports Cars. This ranking is based on our analysis of 41 published reviews and test drives of the Audi TT, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.

The 2010 Audi TT is an attractive and luxurious everyday sports car. Though some of its rivals trump it in performance, most critics agree that the TT offers a pleasing balance of power, agility and luxury.

Compared to other luxury sports cars, the new TT is no back road burner. However, taken as a whole, the TT makes a compelling choice. "Audi TT is a luxury tourer that's closer to being a true sports car than the previous generation was, especially in TTS trim," writes Consumer Guide. "While Porsche's Boxster and Cayman might ultimately be sportier, the TT's more civilized demeanor might be just the thing for more casual motoring."

While the TT is an attractive package, shoppers in the market for more punch are better served looking elsewhere. The Boxster and Cayman, for example, offer more horsepower and sportier handling dynamics. And though many car shoppers will write them off as being too expensive, their starting price is actually close to that of the TTS.

Though the TT carries into the 2010 model year mostly unchanged, the 3.2 models have been discontinued. The 2010 TT is available in two trims - the base 2.0  and TTS -- and two body styles, coupe and roadster (convertible).

  • "When it first hit the streets for the 2000 model year, the radically styled Audi TT - sleek and bulbous and minimalist at once - left not a single head unturned in its wake. Eight years and a truckload of design awards later, that car has earned for itself a place in automotive history. While it would be unrealistic to expect the same kind of visual impact from its follow-up, with its second-generation TT, Audi has delivered a car that's even more exciting than the first." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • The TTS is "the best TT to date, and it has all those traditional TT virtues -- brilliant looks, handsome cabin, superb craftsmanship -- in spades. Plus the poseurs, who want the additional credibility that comes with owning the finest TT of all, will love it more than ever." -- Motor Trend
  • "For many people in this market, the gorgeous Audi interior - especially with the lovely baseball-glove-style, stitched-leather option - combined with the TTS's aggressive looks and powerful engine will make it a very attractive car. But we'd still sacrifice some of the Audi's standard features for the pure, emotional feel of the long-standing king of the category, the Porsche Boxster." -- Automobile Magazine
  • "If you're looking for a sporty weekend toy, or even a year round sports car, make sure the 2008 TT is on your shopping list. Be careful about how you outfit your TT, though, because prices rise quickly with options." -- New Car Test Drive

TT Performance - 8.4 (Very Good)

Test drivers report that the TT and TTS are powerful, handle comfortably and are easy to live with on a daily basis. According to Automobile Magazine, "The TT is an immensely capable machine whose abilities become more profound the harder you push it." Still, some critics take issue with the TT's light steering feel. TT Exterior - 8.6 (Very Good)

Auto writers are enamored by the TT's attractive styling cues. "The TT is a world-class warrior, looking, at least from its looming snout, like a racer off the Nurburgring, circa 1938," writes Boston Globe. "But its classic style is wrapped in modern engineering, making it a car to consider if you're shopping for a sporty ride." The 2010 TT is available in both coupe and convertible body styles. TT Interior - 7.7 (Good)

Reviewers admire the TT's comfortable front seats and first-rate interior finish. "Contemporary design, premium materials and a wide array of color choices combine in a passenger cabin that furthers Audi's reputation for producing standout interiors," writes Kelley Blue Book. Still, some complain that its optional Multi Media Interface complicates controls. Read More

TT Safety - NA

The TT hasn't yet been crash tested,  but comes with loads of assuring safety equipment -- including Audi's Quattro all-wheel drive system. Critics, however, complain of visibility issues in the convertible and the TT's lack of side-head airbags. Read More
