Exterior - What the Auto Press Says

Reviews are mixed on the 2008 BMW 5-Series Wagon's appearance, with some suggesting that the new exterior styling is a step backward. "Comparatively conventional wagon bodywork replaces the sedan's avant-garde bustle bum," says Motor Trend.

Kelley Blue Book warns its readers that, if they've "come to love the look of previous-generation BMW cars both inside and out, the 5 Series may be a visual disappointment." They add that the 5-Series "stands in sharp contrast to BMWs of the past. The subtle corners and simple lines have given way to sharp-creased edges and cat's-eye headlamp lenses." But they also call the exterior "innovative." The New York Times is more impressed, saying that the Wagon's "aggressive sheet metal gives it considerably more flair than the Mercedes E-Class wagon."
