2008 BMW 6-Series Review
This review was written when the 2008 BMW 6-Series was new.
The 2008 BMW 6-Series 650i coupe offers a powerful ride wrapped in a sophisticated exterior. Though its front cabin is comfortable and accommodating, it's criticized for having complicated controls.
The 2008 BMW 6-Series 650i coupe features a powerful V8 engine with a well-mated six-speed transmission, as well as luxurious exterior and interior appointments. Still, many competitors offer smoother rides and reviewers find the 6-Series' iDrive system too complex. Altogether, critics consider the 6-Series a luxury grand tourer rather than a sports car. According to Forbes, you should buy the 650i if you "want to stand out" or "want a large, luxurious coupe that blends sporty dynamics and decadent luxury." If you seek a true four-passenger vehicle, plenty of cargo room, or a high-performance sports car, Forbes suggests the BMW M6, a Maserati, or an AMG Mercedes-Benz instead.
The BMW 650i coupe features a 360-horsepower V8 engine and is also available in a convertible body style.
- "Ultimately, the 650i is a big extravagant coupe that looks expensive and is capable but doesn't drive as exceptionally well as some might hope for this money." -- Car and Driver
- "The first three years have been very kind to this sleek, luxury grand tourer -- well-heeled consumers have snapped-up over 75,000 units the world over. New and improved for 2008, look for version 2.0 to continue down the sales path of success." -- Road and Track
