2010 BMW 6-Series Review
Available in both coupe and convertible body styles, the 2010 BMW 6-Series is a beautiful and luxurious status symbol -- but definitely not an all-out sports car. "The 2010 BMW 6 Series is a luxury coupe, not a cutting-edge sports machine, so you shouldn't expect it to handle like a Porsche 911 or even its 335i and M3 siblings, both of which are available as retractable-hardtop convertibles," writes Edmunds.
The 2010 BMW 6-Series may not be the most dynamic performer in its class, but it is a high-end luxury cruiser worthy of your attention. "High-powered, high-profile and highly desirable, BMW's premium 650i Coupe makes an exclusive statement in a very exclusive realm," writes Kelley Blue Book. While class rivals provide a more exciting experience, the 2010 BMW 6-Series still handles well. Shoppers more interested in a sporty ride than all-out sports performance won't mind a bit.
Drawbacks to the 2010 BMW 6-series include a cramped backseat and not-so-intuitive multi-media interface system. Still, the 2010 BMW 6-Series is one of the more practical, easy-to-live-with vehicles in the class of super luxury sports cars.
Other Sports Cars to Consider
If you're in the market for a super luxury sports car, the 2010 Porsche 911 is a more thrilling, high-power option. Not only does the 911 strike a better balance of raw, unadulterated power and sports handling, but it also carries a similar starting price. However, the 911's higher-end trims cost significantly more than the 2010 BMW 6-Series.
For a sporty cruiser that performs along the same lines as the 2010 BMW 6-Series, check out the slightly-more-expensive 2010 Jaguar XK. Its nameplate is synonymous with refinement.

New for 2010 is the next generation iDrive multi-media system, which some critics say is more intuitive than the previous version. Others, however, still say that it's complicated to use. The 2010 BMW 6-Series is available in two body styles: 650i Coupe and 650i Convertible. A performance-tuned 2010 BMW M6 is also available, but covered in a separate review.
- "More of a luxurious cruiser than a sports coupe, the 650i does offer a great engine note, a comfortable and quiet interior, quick acceleration, and exclusivity." -- Car and Driver
- "The 6-Series suffers from the usual coupe/convertible compromises, daunting prices, a ride that seems firmer than necessary, and BMW's confounding iDrive control. Still, any model is a luxurious driving treat: Swift, supremely capable, and very refined." -- Consumer Guide
- "If you're looking for a sport-touring machine with great driving dynamics and high style, look no further than BMW's 4-seat 6 Series." -- Road and Track
