Reviewers write that the redesigned 2014 BMW X5 has an eye catching interior that's built with premium materials. But how is it out on the road?
Hi, I'm Jim Sharifi, senior editor with U.S. news best cars. In this video we will take a closer look at the X5's performance.
The 2014 BMW X5 is available with three engines, a three hundred horsepower turbocharged six cylinder engine comes standard in the X5, a 255 horsepower turbo diesel six cylinder and a 445 horsepower turbocharged V8 are options. All come with an eight speed automatic transmission.
The base X5 gets an EPA estimated 19 miles/gallon in the city and 27 on the highway while the turbo diesel model bumps those numbers up to 23 and 31. Reviewers say the base six cylinder engine offers strong acceleration while the optional V8 is very quick accomplishing any highway passing challenge with ease.
Many test drivers favor the mid range turbo diesel which delivers excellent fuel economy, strong acceleration at low speeds and superb highway passing power.
Our readers think the eight speed automatic aids the strong engine line up with smooth well timed shifts. The X5 comes standard with rear wheel drive and all wheel drive is optional. Test drivers agree that the X5 has precise steering, strong brakes and extremely sharp handling for a mid-sized SUV. Noting that it feels secure and balanced while cornering.
