Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The X6 features a variety of safety equipment and advanced crash avoidance systems. However, neither the federal government nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has put it through crash tests.
- "The SUV comes with a number of standard safety features, including antilock brakes, side-impact airbags for the front seats, side curtain airbags, active front head restraints and an electronic stability system." -- Cars.com
- "We highly recommend the optional rearview camera, since the X6's mail-slot rear window could obscure the large building you're about to back into." -- Automobile Magazine
- "The parking assist feature is also worth mentioning. It shows an outline of the car with gray zones fore and aft. Objects in those zones, such as a pole you might back up into, appear first in green, then yellow, then red, depending on how close they are to the car." -- CNET
- "The X6 also serves as the debut vehicle for BMW's new torque-vectoring system called Dynamic Performance Control (DPC). I explained it in depth during my earlier drive of the prototype X6, but basically, DPC is akin to Honda's Super Handling-All Wheel Drive -- though there is a key difference. DPC uses a 'mechantronic' system of two planetary gear sets, a multiplate clutch, and an electric helper motor to divide torque between the rear wheels. And, unlike Honda's system, BMW's works in both on- and- off throttle situations." -- Motor Trend
