Safety - What the Auto Press Says

According to most reviews, the LaCrosse offers a safe ride. It "comes with enough standard protection to help you survive" accidents, says the Washington Post, "and maybe avoid them in the first place." The 2008 LaCrosse also receives mixed scores in government and insurance industry crash tests.

In government crash tests, the LaCrosse earned five out of five stars for both the driver and front passenger in front impact crashes. But the car did not fare as well in side impact tests -- earning only three out of five stars for the front seat occupants' protection and four stars for the rear occupants. The LaCrosse also has a four-star rollover rating. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the 2008 LaCrosse the highest rating, "Good," for frontal offset tests. Once again, the LaCrosse tests poorly in side impacts, earning the second-lowest score, "Marginal," even when tested with front and rear side curtain air bags.

Accident Avoidance

The 2008 LaCrosse's features anti-lock brakes, a tire-pressure monitoring system and traction control standard for all trims. Rear parking assist is optional for most trims and standard on the Super. StabiliTrak is available for the CXL LaCrosse; standard for the CXS and Super.

Crash Protection

All LaCrosses have dual-stage frontal, driver and right-front passenger and head curtain side-impact air bags. All trims also have OnStar's ® Emergency Services, which can automatically contact help in the event of an accident.
