Safety - What the Auto Press Says

Reviewers are generally pleased with the 2008 Buick Lucerne's safety features and owners will have the confidence knowing that the Lucerne performed well in multiple crash tests. CNET says "An array of standard safety features and a solid design" make the Lucerne "a safe bet."

Accident Avoidance

The Lucerne "offers foul-weather confidence," assures the Chicago Tribune. All Lucerne's are equipped with four-wheel antilock brakes and standard traction control. For 2008, StabiliTrak is featured as an option for the CX and CXL, and standard on the CXS. The StabiliTrak stability control system, New Car Test Drive explains, "improves driving control by reducing the chance of skidding," and judges it "well worth having."

Buick's Lane Departure Warning system is available as an additional upgrade for the Lucerne, which warns drivers, with both audio and visual cues, when the car is drifting into another lane. The Side Blind Zone Alert system, also featured as an additional upgrade, helps alert the driver of cars in his or her blind spot.

Crash Protection

In government crash tests, the 2008 Lucerne earned five stars for driver protection in front impact crashes, and five stars for front passenger protection. In side impact crashes, the Lucerne earned four stars for front seat occupant protection and four stars for backseat occupant protection.

All three trim levels of the 2008 Lucerne come standard with dual-stage frontal driver airbags, dual-depth frontal passenger airbags with a passenger sensing system, driver and right-front passenger side impact airbags and front and rear outboard head curtain airbags. Cars.com points out, "Safety-conscious parents and grandparents will appreciate that LATCH child-safety seat upper and lower anchors are included in all rear seating positions; many competing vehicles offer only two pairs of the lower anchors, in the outboard positions." Lucerne's also come with daytime running lamps and a rear-window defogger.
