Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2010 Lucerne earns five of five possible stars in government frontal-impact crash testing, and four of five in side-impact testing. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not tested the Lucerne since 2008, but the mechanically-similar 2008 model earned a high score of "Good" in the institute's frontal-impact crash testing, and "Acceptable" in side-impact tests.

Six airbags are standard, as are antilock brakes and traction control. Stability control and brake assist, however, are standard only on upper trims. Most manufacturers now include stability control as standard equipment on cars in this price range. Buick's Lane Departure Warning system is available as an additional upgrade for the Lucerne, which warns drivers, with both audio and visual cues, when the car is drifting into another lane. The Side Blind Zone Alert system is also available as an upgrade.
