Safety - What the Auto Press Says
In government crash tests, the DTS earns five of five possible stars for protecting its driver in a frontal-impact crash. Passengers, however, get only four-star protection. In side-impacts, the car earns four stars for driver and rear-passenger protection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety hasn't tested a DTS in several years. The Institute gave the mechanically-similar 2008 model a top score of "Good" in frontal-impact testing, but only "Acceptable" in side-impacts. At this price point, anything less than perfect scores are quickly becoming unusual.
The DTS includes standard front, front-side and side head-curtain airbags. Traction control is standard equipment, but Electronic Stability Control and Brake Assist are available only on higher trims. No pre-collision system is offered, although most competitors at this price point do have such technology. Cadillac considers its OnStar service a safety feature -- it will call emergency services in the event of an accident.
