Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2010 STS earns respectable scores in government safety tests, winning four of five stars in every test, except for side-impact testing, where it earns five stars for protecting rear passengers. The STS earned a top score of "Good" in Insurance Institute for Highway Safety frontal-impact testing, but only a score of "Acceptable" in side-impact tests.

Anti-lock brakes, stability control, and front, front-side and side head-curtain airbags are standard on the STS. The car can be fitted with an optional Driver Awareness Package, which includes a side blind zone alert, lane departure warning system and heads-up display (HUD), for an added fee -- but some reviewers found problems with the systems.

  • "One editor found the [blind spot alert] didn't light up until the cars were plainly in his view, so its effectiveness could depend on where you position your mirrors."-- Cars.com
