The 2010 Cobalt does well in federal government and insurance industry crash tests.
Crash Tests
- The government's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives the sedan and coupe four out of five stars for the driver's safety and five stars for passenger safety in front crashes. In side crash tests, the Cobalt sedan gets three stars for the front seat and five for the rear. The coupe earns four stars for the driver's and rear passengers' protection in side crashes.
- The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the 2009 Cobalt the highest score, "Good," for frontal offset tests. However, in side-impact tests, models with optional front and rear head curtain air bags get a score of "Acceptable."
Safety Features
The 2010 Cobalt has front driver and front passenger airbags, and head curtain side impact airbags for the driver, front passenger and rear passengers. Four wheel anti-lock brakes are optional for the lower two trims, and standard for the 2LT and SS Turbo. The SS Turbo also has also has anti-lock brakes for all trims, GM's StabiliTrack Electronic Stability Control System is now standard on the Cobalt 2LT and Turbo models; optional for the LS and LT trims. One-year of complimentary OnStar service is provided for all trims.
