Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The federal government gives the 2010 Equinox top five-star scores in frontal and side crash tests. The insurance industry also gives it top scores of "Good" in front, side, rear crash protection tests and a score of "Acceptable" in roof strength tests.

A major plus in the safety department is the Equinox's three standard LATCH devices (Lower Anchors and Top tethers for CHildren) in the rear seat -- meaning it can accommodate three child safety seats at a time using seatbelts.

  • "Standard safety equipment includes six airbags -- dual frontal airbags, head curtain side airbags and pelvic/thorax seat-mounted side airbags - plus four-wheel disc brakes with electronic stability control and traction control. Safety and convenience are enhanced with standard OnStar, while XM Satellite Radio provides added entertainment value." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Dual front airbags, side-impact airbags for the front seats and side curtain airbags for both rows are standard, as are four-wheel-disc antilock brakes, traction control and an electronic stability system." -- Cars.com
