Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2009 Chevy Malibu Hybrid receives five stars in both frontal- and side-impact crash tests performed by the federal government.  The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not specifically tested the Malibu Hybrid, but gives the 2008 conventional Malibu, which has largely the same list of safety equipment, its highest possible rating of "Good" in both frontal offset and side impact crash tests.

Chevrolet's Stabilitrak system, which combines Electronic Stability Control with Traction Control, is standard equipment. Malibu Hybrids carry six airbags, including full-length head curtains. Chevrolet considers its OnStar system to be a safety feature -- it can automatically notify emergency services if the car's airbags deploy.
