Used Car: 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Review

Review Last Updated: 4/22/13

Though other full-size trucks have newer designs, reviewers said that the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 offers a comfortable ride without sacrificing utility.

The 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is ranked:

Reviewers said the 2011 Silverado offers decent handling and a pleasant ride quality, but a few also wrote that base V6-powered models feel sluggish. Most critics tested one of the three available V8 engines, and many liked the available 5.3-liter V8, which offers ample power and slightly better fuel economy than a similarly equipped Ram 1500. Rear- and four-wheel drive are available on the 2011 Silverado 1500. A base model with two-wheel drive and the V6 engine achieve 15/20 mpg city/highway, although the reviewer-favorite 5.3-liter V8 actually delivers slightly better ratings of 15/21 mpg. The Silverado can tow up to 10,700 pounds when equipped with the 6.2-liter V8 engine.

Reviewers were mostly impressed with the Silverado 1500’s cabin, saying that it is solidly constructed with attractive materials. Regular cab models seat up to three people, while extended and crew cabs seat up to six people. Most reviewers said the front seats are spacious and comfortable, though some also mentioned that they could be more supportive. One critic said that the back seats of the extended cab model is a little cramped, but another test driver wrote that the crew cab model has a second row that’s spacious and comfortable. Like most pickups, the base Silverado comes with few standard features. Air conditioning and a stereo system with a CD player are standard, and available features include power windows, door locks and mirrors, as well as cruise control, satellite radio, leather seats, heated and power-adjustable front bucket seats, a Bose stereo, Bluetooth, navigation, a backup camera and dual-zone automatic climate control.

Other Trucks to Consider

Auto writers said that the 2011 Ford F-150’s strengths include a strong engine lineup and a refined interior, and it earns a better safety score than the Silverado. The F-150 also has one of the highest towing capacities in the class, and it matches the Silverado’s reliability score.

The 2011 Toyota Tundra earns better safety and reliability ratings than the Silverado, and reviewers said it offers some of the most comfortable and spacious seats in the segment. If you’re shopping base models, the Tundra also beats the Silverado with a more powerful base engine.
