2014 Chevrolet Traverse Video Transcript
Automotive writers report that the Chevrolet Traverse delivers plenty of room and a comfortable cabin. But how do they feel about it out on the road? Hi! I am Jim Sharifi, Senior Editor with U.S. News Best Cars. In this video we will take a closer look at the Traverse's performance.
The Traverse is powered by a 3.6L V6 engine with 281 horsepower in the LS and LT trim levels. The LTZ version features a dual exhaust system that boosts its horsepower to 288. The engine has made it to a 6-speed automatic transmission and Traverse gets an EPA estimated 17 miles per gallon in the city and 24 on the highway which is about average for the class. Test drivers give the Traverse's power train mixed reviews; some call the V6 engine smooth and strong while others say it has to work fairly hard to get the heavy SUV moving. Others describe the engine sound is harsh and unrefined under hard acceleration blaming the vehicle's nearly 5,000 pound weight.
A few critics say that while the transmission shifts smoothly, it doesn't down shift quickly enough when more power is needed. Though the Traverse is of the larger SUVs in the class, most test drivers say it exhibits fairly controlled handling and they praise its comfortable refined ride. Critics are also impressed with the Traverse's good maneuverability in tight spaces.
