Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The federal government gives the 2010 Traverse top scores of five stars for all seating positions in frontal and side-impact crash tests. It also gives it four-star rollover scores, meaning the AWD and FWD models have just a 15 or 16 percent chance of rollover, respectively, in a single vehicle crash.

Additionally, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the 2010 model top scores of "Good" in front, side and rear crash protection tests. On top of that, this Chevy boasts lots of standard safety features.

  • "All the safety goodies are present and accounted for -- a full complement of airbags, including curtain-style bags for all three rows. The anti-lock brakes are discs at all the corners and include electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist. Stability control, with traction control and roll-over mitigation, and a tire-pressure monitoring system are standard." -- MSN
  • "I advise getting the rearview monitor because it's difficult for a driver to see what's going on at the back of the Traverse. This monitor does not substitute for a driver looking back there, but it provides extra help." -- Associated Press
  • "The antilock brakes and stability control systems worked flawlessly during abrupt maneuvering and a panic stop on slick, wet pavement, as well." -- Fort Worth Star-Telegram
  • "One new feature of the Traverse is blind spot mirrors. Rather than those expensive blind spot sensors being offered increasingly on other vehicles that flash a light in the mirror when another vehicle is in your blind spot, the Traverse has a small wide-angle mirror embedded in the outer top corner of the standard wing mirrors. The wide angle mirror gives you a good look at what's tucked in behind you." -- Autoblog
  • "In one test, we accelerated to 45 miles per hour and, without braking, executed a quick left-right maneuver on wet pavement around an orange pylon strategically placed to represent a sudden obstacle in the road. The StabiliTrak stability control system worked so efficiently it made small work of the test, allowing us to return immediately to our lane without any loss of control." -- Kelley Blue Book
